New Constuction

Size: 45,000 Sq. Ft.
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Client: The City of San Antonio

The new 14,500 sf library is located in a working class neighborhood. The plan is separated into two wings, one for the public reading areas, conference areas, a public meeting room and the children’s area. The other wing houses staff areas and book storage.

The building is oriented to maximize natural light, capture breezes and to better define an existing green space to the north. The front plaza area welcomes patrons with a series of curved cast-in-place concrete walls for sitting and reading. A Butterfly Garden was created as an oasis adjacent to the building. Several local artists were commissioned to incorporate public art within the design of the building.
